The core service of the BJC is the delivery of a comprehensive employment guidance to create pathways to training, education and/or employment. This employment guidance service is delivered across the three offices in Ballymun, Swords and Balbriggan in line with the LAES contract with the DSP.
As a result of changes made by the Department of Social Protection (DSP), the Local Employment Service as previously managed by the Ballymun Job Centre (BJC), will now be replaced by a new employment service called, the Local Area Employment Service (LAES).
From September 1st, 2022, the Ballymun Job Centre will provide support to individuals of the Ballymun, Whitehall, Balbriggan and Swords area, as referred to us by the DSP under the new LAES service. In addition, and as of from the 31st of August, the Ballymun Jobs Club will no longer be in operation.
Under the new Local Area Employment Service, the BJC remains committed to its organisational mission, to raise the skills, education levels and labour market aspirations of individuals who access our services.
These support services form most of our work and includes one to one career guidance, access to training and education and job placement. The service works with people experiencing long term unemployment.
The supports offered include employment guidance to identify employment opportunities to suit the individual, information on education, training courses and apprenticeships that will support an individual to secure the job that interests them, as well as access to employment opportunities. It is a 52-week programme aimed to support long-term unemployed people to get back to work. People are referred to the service directly by DSP.
The Service provides a confidential setting where clients discuss and develop a career path with one of our guidance officers. The guidance officer through a series of one-to-one meetings, will discuss the options open to the client. They will identify strengths and weaknesses using a career guidance model and support clients to identify and fulfil their goals.
